The project’s initiative is a tribute to the original retail entrance of the McGregor Sock Factory, which is now known as the Stantec Window Gallery. The artist’s process takes notice of space, history, context and content. A single figure with socks introduces the subject in reference to the location. This figure symbolizes daily life with simple movements, which one can easily relate to.
The sock follows the movement of the figure. The imagery plays on the notion to “dress” and to “undress”. The sock continues to cover the body until it reveals the figure. Black takes the place of white to reveal the duality between empty and filled space. The window represents the intimacy of this private routine, which takes place in front of a public street. The two defined spaces are in relation and in sharp contrast with one another.
